Wright Robinson Scoops National Award

Wright Robinson College has picked up a prestigious national award for School Team of the Year.

The college’s Year 11 football team won the treble last season, picking up the Manchester Schools, Greater Manchester Schools and National Schools cups.

In recognition of this amazing achievement, the team was named School Team of the Year by The Daily Telegraph in the School Sport Matters Awards 2009.

Victorious captain, Micah Evans, travelled to London to collect the award which was judged by Telegraph columnist and England rugby Union legend Brian Moore.

It was a double celebration for Micah who, along with team mate Thomas Murray, has been signed by Premiership club Blackburn Rovers. A third member of the all conquering team, Curtis Jones, has joined Scottish giants Celtic.

Gareth Davies of The Daily Telegraph, said: “An amazing year and an amazing team who completed the treble just like Manchester United, Wright Robinson are our worthy national team winners. Congratulations.”

Mick Halshaw, manager of the victorious team, added, “The boys worked really hard during the past season and were a credit to both Wright Robinson and Manchester in general. To win the Schools Team of the Year is a fantastic, and well deserved award.”

The award was presented to Wright Robinson College at a star studded ceremony at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea FC.
