SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
Departmental Information
Key Stage 3 Overview
The WRSC science department follows the QCA units of work at KS3. Starting September 2005 we will be introducing the Exploring Science texts for KS3 learners. This will hopefully help to build on the excellent KS3 SATs results for the academic year 2004-2005, which was 46% of pupils achieving a level 5 or above. These results were an impressive gain of 15% on the previous academic year.
Key Stage 4 Overview
WRSC offers a range of courses at KS4 to suit most pupils tastes.
Everybody will sit single science (AQA exam board) unless they choose one of the following options.
Double Science - this is an extension of single award that is worth two GCSE grades. It is suitable for the most academic pupils or those who intend to pursue an education in science at A-level and beyond.
GNVQ Intermediate - this course will run until the academic year 2006-2007. It is a vocational course aimed at pupils with an interest in science and how it is used in the workplace.
BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science - this course will start in September 2005 and is replacing GNVQ. Again it is aimed at more vocational learning.
