Open Evening 2005

On Thursday 15th September 2005, we held our annual 'Open Evening'. The format was changed slightly this year to give parents more choice about how they would like to view the building and meet the staff.

In the main hall was a brief talk by Mr Colin Brierley, Chair of Governors, about the new school we are to move into in April 2007. A DVD with the architects moving images of how the building will look was shown to visitors. Following on from that Mr Neville Beischer, Head Teacher, took the stand and explained about the specialisms the school has managed to attain. Mr Martin Haworth, Deputy Head, ended the formal part of the evening with a short talk on behaviour and the high standards that are expected from both staff and pupils in our school, being polite, punctual and attending were also stressed highly and 'choices, chances and consequences' being offered to all students that attend the school.

The more informal part of the evening took place in the small hall, it was named the 'Relaxation Zone' where visitors were encouraged to have refreshments and chat to members of staff regarding Special Educational Needs, Attendance, Behaviour, PE, Curriculum and a team were present from the LEA regarding admission to the school.

Of course, parents were free to visit all departments around the school, where they were welcomed to try out various practical demonstrations and enquire about any aspects of the curriculum. The visitors were aided around the school by prefects who worked really hard on the night.

The evening was a great sucess and many comments were made about the politeness, helpfulness and general attitude of the staff and prefects from the school.
