Achieve

Mathematics Department

Subject Overview - Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 we have fully incorporated the National Numeracy Strategy which means that the lessons have a high degree of pace and use an interactive teaching style to ensure that all learners participate in the lesson. Pupils arriving at Wright Robinson below Level 4 take part in an intensive intervention programme designed to boost their attainment in government set examinations. In year 9 middle ability sets are split into gender groups to increase attainment in the SATs. We have also introduced a web-based homework system into Key Stage 3. This system allows learners and teachers to get the most accurate information on progress and areas for development. It can be accessed from the link to 'Achieve' above.

Subject Overview - Key stage 4

The examination board we use to Key Stage 4 is EDEXCEL, from which we offer the linear examination route. The course is generally two years in length although select groups are entered early. In addition for the more able learner we also offer the GCSE in statistics. As in year 9 middle ability classes in years 10 and 11 are split into single sex groups to increase attainment.
