Plan Your 2012

Plan Your 2012, Wright Robinson and the secondary schools of Manchester.

Manchester secondary schools have collaboratively designed a programme of events to take place across the spring term. The role of WRC in this project is to bring other schools along with the 2012 journey and to lead the city in the programme. The activities have been conceived to affect every student in every secondary school across the city. Each week the term will have a different focus, which will be delivered by schools autonomously and will culminate in a competition producing a winner from each school. The winners will then be invited to attend a celebratory assembly dinner in Manchester and city wide winners awarded.

Celebration assembly

The assembly will see all winners invited to a prestigious event in the city centre. Head teachers from all schools will be invited along with the Lord Mayor, sports stars from Manchester and families of the nominated students. The celebration dinner will be an opportunity to showcase the work that has been produced and to celebrate how the Olympic values are lived throughout the city.
Running alongside the programme of events will be a city-wide competitive torch relay. The winning torch design from the programme will be built, lit and a torch relay will commence from that school. They will take the torch to a neighbouring school and a competitive sporting match will take place. That school will then take the torch to another school and again play a competitive sporting match. Eventually all schools will have received the torch and played another school in a sport of their choice. The sporting competitions will be organised in conjunction with school games organisers and will attempt to hit the targeted school games sports. The journey of the torch will be documented, shared and the torch will take pride of place at the celebration assembly.
